Enterprise Ireland ‘Built Environment Week’ a Success

Enterprise Ireland North America recently hosted it’s first ever ‘Built Environment Week’ which took place in Enterprise Ireland HQ, Dublin in late March.

The initiative focused on highlighting the opportunities within North America for clients and was divided into three core verticals in which Irish companies have a unique offering.

Data Centre
Fourteen key executives from the US data centre industry met with representatives from fifteen Enterprise Ireland client companies for a series of client pitching sessions, business meetings, and a US/ Irish panel discussion. Following on from this, the group of both US executives and Irish clients travelled to Co. Cork to tour two client facilities. Bob Savage from EMC also joined the group to share his perspectives on doing business in Ireland in the data centre industry.

Oil and Gas
Six advisors from the US and Canada spoke to a number of Irish client companies about the North American Oil and Gas industry and the opportunities within it, the emerging trends and new extraction methods which are creating transformational effects on the industry and supply chain. The following day, one to one meetings were arranged to allow for greater in-depth discussions. This event was used as a prequel to the upcoming Trade Mission to Texas over May 4th-6th.

Construction
The construction stream of the Built Environment initiative involved bringing together seven key construction advisors from the US and Canada and facilitating a panel discussion with six relevant client companies. Following on from the open discussion, clients had the opportunity to pitch their US market plans and gain valuable feedback from the advisors. One to one meetings also provided an opportunity to discuss plans and market opportunities in more depth. Part two of the construction event saw the US advisors attend a client facility to see first hand the strong capability of many of our Irish client companies.

Due to the overall success of the initiative, there are now discussions around implementing a stage 2 later this year.

Espion – Shaping the Future of ICT Security & Forensics

Espion is developing key cyber forensics software components as part of a critical security infrastructures project. This involves collaboration with the EU’s Research Executive Agency and ten other commercial and academic consortium partners across Europe.”

Espion is also helping to shape the future of ICT Security and Forensics through: developing a three-tiered Security Operations Centre (SOC) for monitoring, mitigating security threats and sharing threat information across various critical infrastructures[1]; providing the EU with a realistic R&D roadmap for the SME sector around cybercrime and cyber terrorism[2] as well as developing methodologies and best practices for privacy and cybersecurity innovators, intended to support the ICT security industry and trustworthy ICT market in Europe[3].

In conclusion, Lehane says: “Ireland has a lot to offer US multinationals. Our information security sector has gone from strength to strength and is among the best in the world thanks to excellent interaction of technology firms, research institutes, third level colleges and industry associations to ensure continuous development of Ireland as a center of excellence in information security.”

Enterprise-Ireland’s Canada office organised six on-campus student facing events and a follow up ‘Study in Ireland’ webinar during the month of February. Representatives from six of the Institutes of Technology (Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Sligo, Blanchardstown and IADT Dun Laoghaire) travelled to Canada to take part in the Study in Ireland initiative. Under the Colleges Ontario – IOTI agreement which came into effect in November 2011, graduates from any of the 24 Colleges Ontario can complete their honours degree program in Ireland with one or two years of further study at an Institute of Technology.

Students at Durham College (Oshawa), Fleming College (Peterborough), Fanshawe College (London), St. Lawrence College (Kingston), Centennial College (Toronto) and Humber College (Etobicoke) showed a huge interest in studying in Ireland and enjoyed the Irish entertainment provided. At each of the colleges there was an information stand set up where Enterprise-Ireland and IOTI representatives answered student’s questions and provided them with details about furthering their studies and obtaining an honours degree in Ireland. Two information sessions were held for students each day during which the IOTI representatives spoke about life in Ireland, gave the students practical information concerning tuition, living costs and accommodation, and explained in detail how to apply. A faculty and staff ‘Lunch & Learn’ was also facilitated at each college and several of the Institutes are now in discussion with the Colleges of Ontario about creating further pathways for Canadian students.  

For students who were unable to attend the information sessions on campus and students in the other 18 Colleges of Ontario, a webinar was organised for Wednesday 26th February. Over 200 students registered.

Mervyn O’Mahony, Communications and Marketing Officer from CIT commented on the success of the Canada Campus Campaign, stating: “It was great to see the high level of interest and enthusiasm of students wanting to study in Ireland and no doubt this trip and the recommendations that will come out of it can only increase the participation of Canadian students studying in Ireland.”

Enterprise Ireland’s New York team hosted their first Annual Sports Technology Advisory Panel at the Irish Consulate in New York City on Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

The panel brought together industry leaders in sports business in the digital realm, from the top US sporting institutions such as the NFL (National Football League), the MLB (Major League Baseball), the PGA Tour (Golf), the Brooklyn Nets (NBA-National Basketball Association), WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) and IMG & IMG College (Sports agency and the entity responsible for many sports rights and events). These panellists gave guidance and direction on US strategy to five Irish sports technology companies: Converser, Fantom, Huggity, ShowMeGolfers, and vStream.

This half day event began with remarks from Kristie D’Agnes, Market Advisor for sports technology in the New York office, about the opportunity for Irish companies in the US, as well as with remarks from Peter Ryan, the Deputy Consul General in New York. 

The event started with a panel moderated by Kristie D’Agnes who highlighted many issues that Irish companies face when trying to break into the sports technology industry in the US, including the monetization of social media and sponsorship activation in digital.

The companies then each presented a 7 minute elevated pitch to give the advisors a snap shot of their offering, followed by a brief 3 minute Q&A.

Lastly, each company met with advisors in one to one meetings in a speed dating format which allowed for further impact and dialogue.

The direct feedback from the advisors will be vital as we continue to build our North American strategy going forward and further develop these relationships.”

Role:

The purpose of this role is to manage, develop customer relationships to increase sales, for new and existing products, through all retail channels. This role will work closely with and mentor inside and outside retail sales team to meet goals. This role involves developing inside marketing plans and managing all aspects of P&L with customers.  The role will also contribute and coordinate national marketing plans with marketing director to maximize retail sales while providing insights on additional retail and new product development opportunities.

VP of Sales roles and responsibilities;

Reporting to the CEO of the US office;

  • Maximize profitable distribution of L2G products through all retail channels including FDM, Club, Wholesalers, Independents, Medical offices, Salons, Health Food Stores.
  • Develop annual budgets and manage spend to budgets on a monthly basis.
  • Mange forecasts and effectively communicate P&L results to corporate in a timely manner.
  • Manage the P&L of each individual retail account to maintain and improve profit margins with special focus on managing FDM deductions.
  • Manage and develop inside marketing programs such as TPR’s, Mailers, Register Rewards, rebates etc and identify other opportunities that will effectively drive retail sales.
  • Work with marketing director to develop and execute marketing calendar and education events.
  • Manage the logistics of distribution, invoicing, customer service and sales networks in the US.
  • Work with HQ on NPD and introducing new products into the US market. Identify opportunities on line extensions and other product ideas for global or US distribution.
  • Manage and mentor the retail team to execute goals.
  • Manage and educate our external vendors and sales partners to maximize performance.
  • Identify and develop relationships with other partners on sales, marketing and distribution.
  • Communicate with L2G global on effective marketing activities, successes and sales strategies.

Minimum Requirements;

–       At least one year in medical or Professional beauty industry

–       10+ years sales experience across multiple channels

–       Experience managing accounts and building sales teams

–       Effective presentation skills to a variety of audiences

–        Reporting to CEO – based in Lifes2good head office in Chicago, IL.

–       Ability to travel nationally on a regular basis
