CTIA, Orlando, Florida  – Thursday 17 March, 2011 - Accuris Networks (www.accuris-networks.com), an innovator in roaming interworking and device management technology, today announced that its Wi-Fi offload and roaming platform AccuROAM is being used by three top-tier North American mobile operator networks. Accuris Networks will demonstrate its Wi-Fi offload solution at CTIA Booth #3010.

The AccuROAM platform enables subscribers to seamlessly and securely connect to an operators’ Wi-Fi hotspot using SIM-based authentication without users having to log in every time a new Wi-Fi hotspot becomes available.  AccuROAM uniquely works with legacy Wi-Fi networks solving the problem for the majority of networks that don’t support easy authentication.  It mitigates the need for operators to build out new infrastructure.  AccuROAM provides a secure authentication and registration and an improved user experience compared to traditional username/password methods.  It enables both GSM and CDMA operators to control and manage service access when using Wi-Fi by registering data connections back to the mobile network.

“AccuROAM provides a unique solution for mobile operators who are looking to Wi-Fi to offload congested 3G networks as well as enable a higher value roaming experience when subscribers travel in the U.S. and abroad,” stated Aidan Dillon, Chief Technology Officer of Accuris Networks.  “Subscribers report significantly higher bandwidth when connected on Wi-Fi as well as coverage improvements in key indoor locations.“
SIM-based authentication is a key element in allowing mobile operators to leverage alternate access networks such as Wi-Fi while minimizing lost revenue opportunities from over-the-top applications.  With AccuROAM, operators can offload voice and messaging as well as data services that can be a key value-add for high-ARPU enterprise subscribers.

The key features of the solution being leveraged today are:

  • SIM-based authentication  – for WISP equipment that supports EAP-SIM and alternatives for other access points.
  • VPN management – Standard and non-standard approaches to tunnel back to core networks.
  • Billing and settlement functions – including CDR conversion (RADIUS to TAP); real-time pre-paid support.
  • Tight Mobile Network Integration – including extension of voice and messaging on to Wi-Fi and cell-location-aware Wi-Fi offload.
  • Hotspot white-list management – ensuring all devices are populated with the latest mobile operator Wi-Fi partnerships and tariffs, etc.

Quatech Selects the FXP.830 for its 80% Efficiency and Small Form Factor

Orlando, Florida – CTIA – March 17, 2011 – Taoglas, Limited (www.taoglas.com), the leading provider of antenna solutions to the M2M market, today launched the FXP.830 a powerful, flexible antenna with 80% efficiency for the M2M wireless device and module market. This Taoglas patented antenna is unique in the market because it is made from Taoglas’ flexible polymer material, has a tiny form factor (42*7*.01 mm), an efficiency of 80% and a 3dBi peak gain. It maintains excellent performance even in tight and awkward spaces.

The FXP830 is a small, dual-band, dipole antenna for 2.4/5.8 GHz band including WiFi, Zigbee and WLAN. Its efficiency of 80% compares to 10-15% efficiency of competing chip antennas and 20-30% efficiency of pifa and loop antennas. It has a tiny form factor and has double-sided 3M tape on one side for easy “peel and stick” mounting. This makes the FXP830 ideal for fast and easy implementation particularly in devices where space is at a premium, e.g. sensors, nodes, cameras etc. It is perfect for:

  • Telemedical and telehealth – including body worn devices
  • Mesh networking and remote monitoring
  • M2M (Bluetooth, Zigbee, WiFi) module providers for high reference performance.
  • Security
  • Smart Metering

Quatech Director of Wireless Applications, Andy Ross commented on the FXP.830 “We were looking for an embedded dual-band antenna that had great performance, low cost, and can meet the demanding requirements of our WiFi module customers in the embedded Medical, Handheld, Industrial and Metering Markets. The FXP.830 did all that.”

“I’ve worked in the module space for many years and I’ve never seen anything like the FXP.830,” said Tim Dolan, Director of North American Sales, and Taoglas. “In this market, antennas are usually made of PCB material requiring customers to devise some type of unique mounting scheme, or, external antennas which are prone to breaking off. The FXP.830 is a tiny, dual band, flexible, 3dBi gain antenna that solves all the issues. Customers are amazed with the performance of this device and how easy it is to peel and stick the antenna for mounting. It is the best dual-band antenna in the market.”

In the FXP800 series, Taoglas is also launching the FXP810, which has different mounting options. Antennas are available now from Taoglas by contacting sales@taoglas.com or through distributors.
